GORDAN INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS SCIENCE - HOTEL BAR - ILLOVO

Damascus was required to create a bar within a hotel lobby in a limited space. The bar wraps around the stairwell and sits below the stair landing, which creates a cozy ceiling for the bar counter where the light fittings seem to float. The stairwell also provides the opportunity to accentuate the volume of the hotel lobby, which was achieved by the design of steel and glass shelving units, creating a space for the display of bottles and the integration of natural elements through plants which are easily accessible from the stair landing, for their maintenance.

The bar face is clad with curved timber panels which interlock to create a seamless connection between each curve, and a cushion-like aesthetic. The rounded white marble countertop follows the form of the timber panels and is illuminated by under-counter lighting, which paired with the warm ambience and cozy feeling invites users to sit down.
